MYCAL is a set of academic competitions aimed to attract students in grades K-12 enrolled in New Jersey Muslim Schools. While students engage in competitive contests, the League’s primary focus is fostering bonding and growth amongst Muslim youth in New Jersey through a shared love of academic competitions.
Mission
To encourage camaraderie amongst youth by establishing a curriculum of academic competitions that bring youth from different schools together to bond through competition. While there will be awards given to competitors and schools at the end of each competition, the focus of the Academic League will be on creating friendships. Academic League aims to grow the impact of the league through the inclusion of Muslim Student Associations and other Muslim college students as outlets for coordinators. Competitions may include:
- Model United Nations: 2 day Large and professionally run Model United Nation Conference
- Spelling Bee: 1 day spelling competition for grade school students
- Science Competition: 1 day science competition judged on performance with given criteria
- Mock Trial: Students simulate the court experience for this competition to be carried out of the span of a few weeks
- Essay Contest: students will have the opportunity to write on a proposed prompt and vie for prize money
How it Works
Each school is invited to compete in each academic competitions; individual awards as well as school awards will be presented competition winners. At the conclusion of the year’s competitions simple tally of the number of awards won in each competition at the end of the year will determine the overall MYCC Scholastic league winner.
